{"id":929,"date":"2020-03-26T16:17:14","date_gmt":"2020-03-26T16:17:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.withcreative.co.uk\/dev\/the-impact-of-the-corona-virus-on-stocktake-attendance-by-auditors\/"},"modified":"2021-01-14T23:13:31","modified_gmt":"2021-01-14T23:13:31","slug":"the-impact-of-the-corona-virus-on-stocktake-attendance-by-auditors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.withcreative.co.uk\/langricks\/the-impact-of-the-corona-virus-on-stocktake-attendance-by-auditors\/","title":{"rendered":"The Impact of the Corona Virus on Stocktake Attendance by Auditors"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>With 31<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0March year end\u00a0approaching, \u00a0auditors need to consider the effect of the travel\u00a0restrictions\u00a0and social distancing on stock attendances required under Auditing Standards.<\/p>\n<p>The auditors do still need sufficient appropriate audit evidence in order to form their audit opinion on the existence and completeness of stocks at the balance sheet date.<\/p>\n<p>Below are the different options that the auditor could use.<\/p>\n<p>If the business is continuing to trade:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The year end could be extended to defer the stock attendance to a more suitable date, however a company can only end its year end once in 5 years, up to a \u00a0maximum of 18 months, therefore a 31<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0March year end can only be extended to 30<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0September.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The business can produce stock records at the year end, then using continuous stock records, sample check at a later date.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Use technology to remotely attend the stock counts. \u00a0With the business counting and the auditor reviewing in real time, using video calling software such as Face time, WhatsApp or\u00a0Skype<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If a business has had to close:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Obtaining the closing stock reports and attending to count once the business reopens would be an option.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If sufficient appropriate audit evidence cannot be obtained:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Where a solution cannot be found there would be a limitation in scope of the audit and the auditor would be required to qualify the audit report in this respect.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<footer>\u00a9 2021 Langricks | All rights reserved.<\/footer>\n<figure class=\"op-tracker\"><\/figure>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With 31st\u00a0March year end\u00a0approaching, \u00a0auditors need to consider the effect of the travel\u00a0restrictions\u00a0and social distancing on stock attendances required under Auditing Standards.
