The only time this will change is if the letting agent and landlord enter into an agreement that the agent will accept responsibility for carrying out the checks.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Acceptable documents<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The requirements differ for potential tenants from EEA countries (EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and Switzerland, and for those from outside these countries.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Tenants within the EEA or Switzerland:\u00a0One of the following:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>British \/EEA passport (current or expired)<\/li>\n<li>Valid biometric immigration document<\/li>\n<li>Certificate of naturalisation as a British citizen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>or<\/p>\n<p><strong>Two of the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Birth certificate<\/li>\n<li>Letter dated within the last three months from an employer<\/li>\n<li>Letter from UK educational institution<\/li>\n<li>Full or provisional driving licence (with counterpart).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Tenants from other countries<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following documentation must be endorsed to indicate that the named person may stay in the UK for a time-limited period:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Valid passport\/travel document<\/li>\n<li>Biometric immigration document<\/li>\n<li>Residence card<\/li>\n<li>Immigration status document issued by the home office<\/li>\n<li>A \u2018yes\u2019 response from the Landlords Checking Service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These checks need to be followed up either, a) 12 months from the date of the previous check or b)
